Position Summary
Leads and directs the environmental, health, and safety efforts at the Marble Hill, GA facility. Maintains and monitors the compliance assurance system including permit status and requirements, methods, compliance calendar and audits. Optimizes the performance in EHS initiatives that assist the HEM Sector in achieving the status of a world class organization. Identifies, manages, directs, and audits the systems required to limit risk factors leading to environmental mishaps, compliance violations, job-related injury or illness, property damage, and bad public relations. Supports the creation of a proactive EHS strategy that will drive this location in becoming an environmentally sustainable enterprise. Participates as a functional expert/resource for the Marble Hill location. Aids in the development and implementation of location specific EHS policies, procedures, and programs. Ensure that compliance related activities such as environmental permits requirements, EHS training, are robust and maintained.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Leads and directs the environmental programs including the Huber Sustainability Management System (HSMS).
- Develop, sell, and implement strategic plans for EHS environmental compliance and performance improvement. Works to ensure employee engagement and participation in the environmental programs.
- Managing, creating, and updating compliance plans / programs. Analyzes performance metrics and implements tactical plans for compliance and performance improvement.
- Provides training to site for environmental, health, and safety performance and regulatory compliance.
- Conducts and manages EHS audits and benchmarking exercises. Provides technical counsel and practical advice to site management for environmental, health, and safety compliance or process improvement.
- Develops environmental and safety compliance plans to improve the safety culture, reduce injuries, minimize environmental compliance violations, and maximize environmental stewardship and sustainability. Works to ensure employee engagement in the safety culture.
- Coordinates monthly, quarterly, and annual recordkeeping for Marble Hill site for all required company reports for all EHS metrics including environmental and safety performance metrics. Assists in developing additional proactive metrics as required for continuous improvement.
- Leads and/or coordinates incident investigations. Conducts follow up audits to ensure that corrective actions are taken.
- Ensure Marble Hill has a written Disaster Recovery and Crisis Communication plan. Leads periodic drills. Directs crisis communication activities with the assistance of plant management and communications professionals.
- Performs industrial hygiene and environmental sampling and monitors to ensure compliance for both safety and environmental regulations.
- Develops, implements, and conducts employee training for safety and environmental regulations.
- Provides advice and counsel to engineering on the implications of project and process changes concerning environmental permits and the safety and health hazards associated with proposed changes.
- Manages and directs activities (including reports) from EHS consultants and contractors. Recommends and ensures the efficient and appropriate use of EHS consultants and contractors.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- Minimum B.A. or B.S. degree, or equivalent education, in Engineering, Law, Environmental Science, Safety – advanced degrees a plus.
- Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, CHMM or in process to achieve certification or ability to become certified is a plus.
- 5+ years with progressive responsibility and experience in safety, environmental with at least 2 years of management experience (plant safety director/department management).
- Familiar with environmental control technologies and various systems applicable to the particular site/location.
- Implementation of safety or environmental management systems RCMS, and knowledge of ISO 14000, etc.
- Proven background in developing and presenting training programs and other program facilitation.
- MSHA is nice to have but not a requirement.
Must be a 24 hour a day on-site contact in case of emergency (accident, injury, environmental issue).
