Georgia Mining Safety

Protecting Georgia’s Most Valuable Resource: Our People

Nothing found in any of Georgia’s mines is worth anything without a hardworking, skilled team of people to extract the minerals, transport them, and convert them into materials used for our world’s manufacturers, builders, and more.

Protecting the safety of these valuable members of our industry is one of GMA’s key concerns. We work to ensure the safety of Georgia’s mining stakeholders through five main channels:

  • The GMA Safety and Health Committee monitors state and federal regulatory activity and regularly communicates emergent issues and information to the membership.
  • Monthly safety meetings allow GMA members to discuss and share ideas about emerging or ongoing safety issues and risk reduction practices.
  • Annual safety workshops are open to any mineral-related business in the state, where industry experts share best practices, new techniques and technologies, and more resources for keeping Georgia’s mines, processing facilities, transportation channels, and other mineral-related operations safe.
  • We connect members to associate members that offer safety training, consulting, products, or services.
  • GMA’s President’s Safety Awards are given to recognize members whose safety efforts have been most effective during the past year.

Mining Safety Is Our Priority

With an enviable safety record and a proven history of protecting the health and safety of our stakeholders and the general public, mining is one of the safest industries in Georgia. Since its beginning, GMA has sought to continually improve the safety of Georgia’s mining industry through education, resources, and connecting mining, beneficiating, transportation, and other mineral operations to vendors, consultants, and educators who provide safety training and tools.
