Civil Engineer I

Summary of Position:

Manage and coordinate engineering design, cost analysis, procurement, scheduling, bidding, construction, and start-up of
civil related capital infrastructure in a team environment with a focus on meeting end user expectations and functionality.

Skill Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Ability to work independently and handle different and multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Heavy focus on safety in design and construction. Self-motivated, energetic and able to execute.
  • Five years’ experience in charge of design and construction management preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training Required, Professional Engineering License preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Proficient in hydraulic pipeline systems and gravity-fed pipe or channel flow design. Firm understanding of
    hydrology and watershed management.
  • Efficient and experienced in civil related construction cost estimating, project scheduling, project cost analysis,
    feasibility studies, quantity takeoffs, operational cost analysis, material procurement, and developing preconstruction bid documents.
  • Execute construction through managing field personnel and contractors performing various trades – earthwork,
    pipe trenching, pipe fitting and welding, etc.
  • Knowledge of soil mechanics and basic geotechnical design and analysis of foundations, slope stability, and
    earthen dam design. Understand field and laboratory soil testing methods sufficiently to support design and
    construction.
  • Firm understanding of phased E&SC plans and BMP implementation. Knowledge of local, state, and federal
    regulations regarding environmental permitting requirements related to typical civil projects.
  • Proficient in developing basic grading and drainage site plans. Understand earthwork volume calculation
    methods.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or Microstation other industry specific software such as Hydroflo, HEC-HMS and Carlson
    Civil/Survey.
  • Basic knowledge of surveying and mapping concepts, including construction layout, topography survey methods,
    conventional and GPS survey equipment. Provide technical assistance through the use of survey methods,
    photogrammetry and CAD software to support, analyze and design projects.
  • Create engineering design drawings in support of capital projects.
  • Work with other engineers and programmers in a team environment to manage projects from concept to
    implementation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Basic structural analysis skills using Staad or GTStrudl is a plus.
  • Ability to perform field survey work in support of a project is a plus
